Family Dollar is seeking a Transportation Specialist to drive the carrier program, secure reliable capacity, and minimize costs through an optimal carrier mix. The role focuses on supplier governance, performance monitoring, and cost-efficient transportation strategies.

You will establish partnerships, lead RFPs, and collaborate with Transportation Management and Analysts to optimize service, coverage, and budgeting.

General Summary

Support the success of Family Dollar by ensuring the carrier program consistently delivers reliable capacity at the lowest possible cost with an optimal carrier mix.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The primary tasks the associate will be performed during his/her work schedule

• Establish strong carrier partnerships while holding carriers accountable for service, capacity, and contractual commitments.
• Monitor performance metrics, lead business reviews, and drive corrective actions to improve carrier results.
• Proactively identify and onboard carriers that provide value through improved service, capacity, network coverage, or cost competitiveness.
• Execute formal transportation RFPs that obtain the lowest cost, while considering service and overall carrier strategy.
• Recommend formal RFP strategy and frequency based on understanding of the market and evaluating the risks and rewards to Family Dollar.
• Monitor, research, summarize and report challenges with carrier performance via carrier scorecard
• Utilize systems and optimize procedures as guided by management
• Research, create and edit presentations and reports
• Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and professionalism within the organization, across vendors and carriers
• Work closely with Transportation Management and Analysts to develop strong carrier and corporate partnerships by liaising with those partners on a routine cycle
• Provide clear direction, coaching, and development opportunities that enhance individual and team performance.
• Delegate work appropriately, empowering team members while maintaining accountability for results.
• Maintain appropriate contact listings for the team
• Complete other various assignments, as required

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Three to Five years of transportation work experience
• Previous corporate office experience
• Dynamic and agile work style
• Polite and professional, exhibiting a desire to support the needs of others
• Ability to be successful in a changing environment and be successful with the ambiguity of change
• Ability to work well with people at different organizational levels internally and externally
• Ability to gain trust with associates and carrier representatives by exuding compassion and respect
• Must possess qualities of integrity, discretion and strong ethics
• Strong organizational and problem solving skills

• Strong written and verbal communication stills
• Strong working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel
• Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously

Projected Salary Range: $90,000-$112,500
