Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company is seeking a Structural Carpenter to join our team across multiple Virginia sites. You will build and install forms for substructure and superstructure bridge elements, measure layouts with tape, cut timber and assemble frames, and set concrete forms for columns and walls.

This full-time, year-round role requires the ability to work at heights, own tools, outdoor conditions, and passing pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Read and use a tape measure including simple math.
• Ability to comfortably work from heights.
• Must have own tools adequate to perform all job functions.
• Work in outdoor environments in all seasons.

Responsibilities

• Build and install forms for substructure/superstructure bridge elements and other structural elements.
• Measure materials or distances using square, measuring tape, or rule to lay out work.
• Cut or saw boards, timbers, or plywood to size with handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine.
• Assemble and fasten material to construct wood or metal framework using bolts, nails, or screws.
• Anchor and brace forms and other structures using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges.
• Erect forms, framework, scaffolds, ladders, hoists, or roof supports with hand tools.
• Pouring, smoothing and leveling concrete using rake, trowel, float, vibrator and screed.
