Summary

Schedule, coordinate and manage construction remodel projects, such as constructing or relocating walls. Advise on job cost analysis for labor and materials used on those projects. Coordinate and supervise work schedules and personnel on all renovation and tenant improvement jobs performed in-house including; carpenters, painters, and support personnel. Coordinates outsourced trades and vendors for associated projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • This position reports directly to the Construction Services Operations Manager and fulfills duties as a working foreman over Carpentry Shop personnel and projects. Reviews and assigns personnel for all designated projects, prepares project timelines, schedules, and sequences, and commits resources to oversee the job from start to completion.
  • Coordinates and supervises carpenters, painters, and support personnel to ensure the quality of work. Assigns and coordinates personnel by task and team. Oversees renovations as well as repair of walls, ceilings, doors, cabinets, and custom millwork throughout the County as performed by the Carpenter Shop.
  • Manages, maintains, and continually updates shop project schedules for multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Interviews job applicants, trains employees, plan schedules, delegates work, monitors for quality, establishes team procedures and standards, oversees and approves time, conducts performance evaluations, conducts disciplinary actions and / or recommends promotions.
  • Collaborates on project costs, as well as scheduling and strategies.
  • Keeps documented records on all projects including the list of materials, drawings, time schedules, staffing and actual hours, and actual cost. Maintains shop supply and tool inventory. Creates, maintains and reports in formats as required.
  • Utilizes County resources to lower the overall cost of all projects when deemed feasible (e.g., utilization of work detail program).
  • Designs and builds work including custom cabinets based upon design documents and intent.
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of Facilities Management as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a supervisor in construction industry.
  • Hands-on experience in remodeling as a carpenter or other tradesperson.
  • Good mathematical skills and the ability to read prints and interpret drawings.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, techniques, and systems.
  • Basic knowledge of building codes, accessibility issues, and life safety issues.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs used by department.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project software.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to provide on-site management to ensure that work is properly constructed and installed to a finished product.
  • Ability to train and educate team members.
  • Current and valid driver's license is required.
Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the successful applicant is regularly required to sit, climb, bend, lift, stand, walk, stoop, reach, and drive. This position may require overtime, rotating shifts nights, evenings, weekends and holiday work. Candidates must have the ability to pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment.

Successful applicant must arrive at work on time, prepared to assign duties, determine crew sizes, safety procedures, designate schedules and productivity goals, in order to execute the assigned projects. Successful applicant must be a team leader and have the ability to work well with others. Successful applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
