Scroggs Construction in Asheville, NC is seeking a dedicated Carpenter’s Helper to start a hands-on carpentry career on active job sites. This entry-level role works under a Crew Leader and a Journeyman to learn measuring, cutting, and assembling materials.

You will use power and hand tools, assist with remodeling and demolition, maintain safety and organization, and lift heavy materials as needed. Compensation is $16–$19 per hour, with benefits such as Health Reimbursement, PTO, paid holidays,

Qualifications

  • Entry-level position; eager to learn carpentry.
  • Must live within 35 minutes of Asheville, NC.
  • Must have a basic tool set and ability to operate power tools safely.
  • Ability to read tape measures and lift heavy materials.

Carpenter's Helper/Laborer

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Carpenter’s Helper to join our growing team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone interested in starting a career in the construction industry. The ideal candidate is eager to learn and gain valuable hands‑on experience in the carpentry field. As a Carpenter’s Helper, you will work as part of a team under the guidance of a Crew Leader and a Journeyman Carpenter. Please note: all employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing a full background check.

General Responsibilities:
  • Assist on the Jobsite, including measuring, cutting, and assemblingmaterials.
  • Support remodeling and restoration projects by preparing work areas andassisting with demolition.
  • Utilize power tools and hand tools effectively for various carpentry tasks.
  • Help with heavy lifting of materials and equipment as needed on job sites.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Follow instructions from lead carpenters to ensure project specifications aremet accurately.
Requirements:
  • Must live within 35 minutes of Asheville.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry techniques.
  • Be equipped with a basic tool set.
  • Ability to operate power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Experience with hand tools commonly used in carpentry work.
  • Ability to lift, load, and unload heavy construction materials
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Great attitude and willingness to learn new skills and techniques in thecarpentry field with an open mind.
  • This position will require a significant amount of driving so any candidatemust possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license throughout their employment.

Carpenter's Helpers are required to own the following tools:

  • Tool belt
  • Impact/ cordless drill (with batteries and charger)
  • case of various screwdriver bits
  • tape measure (25ft minimum)
  • framing hammer
  • crescent wrench
  • pliers
  • speed square
  • utility knife
  • crows foot (nail puller)
  • chalk box
  • torpedo level
  • nail set
  • safety glasses
  • and gloves.
Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay: $16-$19/hour, based on experience and skill set.
