Job summary

Wells is hiring a Wood Shop carpenter in Jacksonville, FL to cut and shape materials for panels and fabricate blank-out materials used within panels. The role involves operating saws and nail guns, assembling forms, and transporting wood forms through production.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Reads and comprehends pour sheets.
  • Cuts insulation and blank-out material for panels, as well as nailers for each pour.
  • Operates table saws, band saws, miter saws, pneumatic nail guns, and other tools safely and efficiently.
  • Cuts and assembles wood components to construct forms and bulkheads for both structural and architectural projects.
  • Seals wood forms when required and creates special blanks or notches for projects.
  • Prepares materials and sets up beds, including drilling holes into wood forms.
  • Assists with or directs special form build-ups as needed.
  • Transports wood forms to production for painting or varnishing.
  • Performs work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Uses forklifts to move materials from storage to fabrication areas.
  • Responsible for following the BSP (Behavior-Based Safety) program and maintaining housekeeping standards in their assigned area.

The Wood Shop carpenter is responsible for cutting and shaping materials to achieve the desired appearance for each panel. They also fabricate the blank-out material used within the panels.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for asafety-minded candidate with strong interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and managers. The ideal person can solve problems quickly and efficiently, collaborate with others to complete projects, and also work independently when needed.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical training or work experience in carpentry is preferred.
  • General math skills and the ability to read a tape measure.
  • Possesses knowledge of the company’s products and can identify which products are best suited for each task.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and a willingness to embrace changes aimed at achieving Best in Class standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors year-round. (Depending on location)
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
