Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Carpenter in Design and Construction to build, install, alter, and repair structures and fixtures across our campus. You will read sketches and drawings, use hand and power tools, lay foundations and install ceilings, doors, windows, and furniture, and work at heights.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and formal carpentry training or several years of experience, plus the ability to obtain a Secret

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; basic reading/writing English.
  • Formal carpentry coursework or 1-year apprenticeship or 2+ years as a carpenter.
  • Ability to set up and operate carpentry tools/equipment.
  • Able to communicate effectively; proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Build, install, alter, and repair structures and fixtures using wood and metal.
  • Read sketches, diagrams, and drawings; use measurement tools to fit and assemble.
  • Work at heights; lift heavy objects; transport materials and equipment.
  • Follow safety regulations and site procedures; maintain organized workspace.
