Ace-Handyman-Services in Elgin, IL seeks an experienced Carpenter / Home Remodeling Technician for part-time work with a path to full-time. Pay is $25-$30/hour, Monday through Friday.
You must have 5+ years of professional carpentry/remodeling experience, own tools, and a reliable vehicle, and reside in Kane County or southern McHenry County. We offer a stable schedule with growth toward full-time, and a team that supports high-quality craftsmanship and outstanding customer service.
$25-$30/hour | Monday-Friday | Part-Time with Path to Full-Time
We're looking for an experienced Carpenter / Home Remodeling Technician who has already built a career in carpentry, remodeling, or closely related skilled construction work and wants to put that experience to work in a role with more consistency and a better schedule.
To be considered, you must have:
5+ years of paid, professional carpentry, remodeling, or closely related skilled construction experience
A résumé or work history that clearly demonstrates that experience
Strong hands-on carpentry skills and the versatility to handle a variety of home repair and remodeling projects
Your own professional tools and a reliable vehicle during the initial 30-60 day Mutual Fit Period
Residence in Kane County or southern McHenry County
10+ years of hands-on professional experience is strongly preferred.
This is not an entry-level or apprentice position. DIY projects, personal woodworking, school/shop experience, helping friends or family, or maintaining your own properties do not substitute for professional experience.
If you've spent years doing this work professionally and still love the craft—but could do without the long hours, weekends, production grind, or constant pressure of finding your next customer—we may be a great fit.
We provide the customers and schedule the work. You bring the experience, craftsmanship, judgment, professionalism, and desire to delight the customer.
$25-$30/hour, based on experience and ability
Part-Time opportunities with a path to Full-Time
Your evenings and weekends are yours
Consistent work without having to find your own customers
Variety of residential and commercial repair and remodeling projects
Work independently while still having the support of a professional team
No chasing leads. No marketing your own business. No wondering where the next job is coming from.
Come to work, take care of your customers, do work you're proud of, and go home.
Strong carpentry skills are the foundation of this position, but our customers call us to solve problems—and those problems don't always fit neatly into one trade.
You should be comfortable taking on work such as:
Finish carpentry, trim, doors, and cabinets
Framing and wood/rot repair
Deck repairs and improvements
Drywall repair and finishing
Painting and touch-up work
Tile installation and repair
Minor plumbing repairs and fixture replacement
Light electrical work, such as replacing fixtures, switches, and outlets
General remodeling, repair, and property improvement projects
You don't need to be an expert in every trade. But after 5-10+ years in the business, you should have developed the experience, confidence, and problem-solving ability to handle a wide variety of projects—and the judgment to recognize when something is outside your expertise.
If your first reaction when a project moves beyond carpentry is "That's not my trade," this probably isn't the right position for you.
We're looking for candidates who have earned their living performing carpentry, remodeling, or closely related skilled construction work.
Your work history should demonstrate at least 5 years of relevant paid experience working for contractors, remodelers, carpentry companies, construction companies, your own legitimate contracting business, or directly for paying customers.
The following do not count toward the 5-year requirement:
Personal woodworking or DIY projects
Hobby experience
School or shop projects
Helping friends or family
Maintaining your own properties
Unrelated maintenance experience
If your résumé or work history does not demonstrate at least 5 years of relevant paid professional experience, you will not be considered for this position.
Our strongest team members:
Take pride in doing the job right—not just getting it done
Enjoy figuring out how to solve problems
Work independently and use good judgment
Communicate confidently and professionally with customers
Take ownership of both the project and the customer experience
Are comfortable explaining their work and collecting payment
Bring a positive attitude to customers and teammates
Genuinely care whether the customer is delighted with the finished work
High-quality work is expected here. What sets our best people apart is everything that goes with it.
This is not production framing, apartment maintenance, or repetitive unit-turnover work.
You probably won't enjoy this position if you prefer doing the same task every day, need someone directing your every move, don't enjoy working directly with customers, or believe "good enough" is good enough.
We're looking for experienced professionals who can own the outcome—not simply complete the task.
Every new team member begins with a 30-60 Day Mutual Fit Period.
During this time, you'll use your own professional tools and reliable vehicle while we evaluate your craftsmanship, versatility, customer service, reliability, attitude, and fit with our team.
Just as importantly, you'll be evaluating us. Do you enjoy the work? Do you like the team? Does our approach fit what you want from the next stage of your career?
At the end, we want both sides saying:
"Yes. This is a team I want to be part of."
Once that fit has been established, we will consider assigning a company vehicle based on performance and business needs.
We are currently focused on hiring carpenters who live in Kane County, with particular interest in candidates who live in or around:
Aurora
Batavia
Geneva
St. Charles
Candidates from southern McHenry County will also be considered.
We've learned through experience that proximity matters. Shorter commutes make for a much better long-term fit for both you and our team.
Candidates who live outside Kane County or southern McHenry County will not be considered.
We're looking for someone who has already built a career in carpentry and wants to use that experience a little differently.
Someone with strong carpentry skills who enjoys doing more. Someone who likes solving problems. Someone customers trust in their home or business. Someone who takes pride in their reputation and wants to be part of a team that cares about doing things the right way.
Do great work during the workday. Delight your customers. Then go home and enjoy your evenings and weekends.
If you have 5+ years of real, paid professional carpentry/remodeling experience and this sounds like the kind of opportunity you've been looking for, we'd like to meet you.
