Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in safe operating condition.
• Follow safety procedures and perform duties involving lifting, climbing, and other physical requirements.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the fabrication, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, etc.
• Assist carpenter in the construction and repair outdoor equipment including fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
• Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Texas driving license

EQUIPMENT USED: Under the supervision of the carpenter: power saw, planer, drill press, sander band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, nail gun, air compressor, other power equipment, measuring devices, and light truck or van.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to operate hand and power tools and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, gas lines, and toxic chemicals. Frequent district wide travel.

SALARY:

PAY GRADE: AUX - 3 - Minimum hourly rate - $16.00
