Job summary

San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS), a longtime Texas manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Welder. This full-time role focuses on welding and fabricating metal components for equipment and parts used in production.

Responsibilities include designing fixtures, preparing surfaces, and operating welding equipment per drawings and specs. The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of welding experience; certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic math skills and blueprint reading required.
• Welding symbols and blueprint reading knowledge preferred.
• Experience with welding dies or equipment used in manufacturing preferred.

Position

SAS has an opening for an experienced Welder.

Job Responsibilities

• Cutting and joining metal parts for fabricating or repairing manufacturing equipment, tools, and various other articles
• Designing and fabricating the equipment and parts for meeting the special or unusual needs, using the manufacturer specifications, calculator, measuring devices, drawings, etc.
• Installing or removing any special equipment like grinders, power and hand tools, etc.
• Designing and creating holding jigs that aid in fabrication of the parts in various numbers
• Maintaining a record of all the work completed
• Maintaining routine inventory of supplies used for operating the welding unit via inspection of stocks and ordering fresh stock as and when required.

Job Qualifications

• Basic mathematics skills
• Basic knowledge of welding symbols and blueprint reading skills
• Ability to work with complicated welding tools
• Experience with welding dies or instruments/ equipment utilized within a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Proficient in monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating or warping of parts.
• Ability to examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Able to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
• Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
• Preheat work pieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.

Education & Experience Requirements

• 2-5 years or more of welding experience
• Welding certification preferred ( American Welding Society)
• Forklift experience preferred
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Follow company procedures and policies

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead

Must be able to lift 15 lbs.

• Comfortable standing for long periods
• Able to work outdoors and around loud machinery
• Able to work on uneven surfaces
• Must be able to climb, bend, walk, balance, and carry materials safety
