Job summary

University of Washington is seeking a temporary Carpenter to join the Facilities Maintenance & Construction team in Seattle. This full‑time, one‑year position reports to a supervisor and lead, focusing on construction, repair and remodeling of buildings, fixtures, and finishes across campus.

Responsibilities include following blueprints, estimating costs, installing casework, doors, hardware and related components; coordinating with trades and partners; and maintaining safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a carpenter; or full journey status as a carpenter in a union; or four years' applicable work experience.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.
  • Experience with construction, repair and remodeling tasks as described in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Construct projects from blueprints or sketches and develop cost estimates for installations and repairs.
  • Install, repair and replace building components such as casework, shelving, doors and hardware; adjust as needed.
  • Operate hand and power tools and machinery typical for carpentry and Floor/ceiling work.
  • Coordinate with leads and supervisors on project status and materials and communicate with campus partners.
