Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform a wide range of general building carpentry and repairs related to mechanical systems and hospital structures. You will follow blueprints, lay out work, and install doors, windows, ceilings, cabinetry, and wall coverings while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities include assisting other carpenters, handling power and hand tools, and performing routine tasks such as painting and cleanups.

Qualifications

  • Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret blueprints and renovation plans.
  • Read blueprints to lay out work for partitions, doors, windows and cabinets.
  • Ability to use all standard power and hand tools including carpentry and tile setter tools.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out work assignments and assist other carpenters and helpers, supervising their work to ensure quality and safety as required.
  • Use standard carpenter tools and equipment to efficiently complete tasks.
  • Read simple blueprints and lay out work for partitions, doors, windows and cabinets.
  • Install and repair door bucks, doors, windows, and hardware as required.
  • Construct suspended acoustical and/or sheetrock ceilings.
  • Construct wood and plastic-laminate faced furniture and countertops.
  • Install and repair sheetrock and walls, including taping, spackling and sanding preparatory of painting.
  • Install and tile floor and wall tiles, ceramic and vinyl cove base.
  • Install and repair windows, sash and glazing, lintels and waterproofs.
  • Perform miscellaneous jobs as required or assigned, including general clean-ups and minor painting.

Performs and monitors a wide variety of general building carpentry and repair related to mechanical systems and building structures.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out work assignments and assist other carpenters, and helpers to periodically supervise their work to insure good quality standards and safety, if required.
  • Uses all standard carpenter, tile setter, tools and equipment including saws, grinders, levels, etc to efficiently complete tasks.
  • Read simple blueprints and lay out work by chalk-lines or other methods for partitions, doors, windows and cabinets.
  • Install and repair door bucks, doors, windows, and hardware as required.
  • Construct suspended acoustical and/or sheetrock ceilings.
  • Construct wood and plastic-laminate faced furniture and counter tops.
  • Install and repair sheetrock and walls, including taping, spackling and sanding preparatory of painting.
  • Install and tile floor and wall tiles, ceramic and vinyl cove base, composition tile by adhesive or mud method.
  • Install and repair windows, sash and glazing, lintels and waterproofs.
  • Performs miscellaneous jobs as required or assigned, including general clean-ups, minor painting, etc.
  • Periodically order materials as required for work through the Lead Carpenter.Performs related duties as required.

Physical Demands
  • Must be capable of performing independent work with a minimum of supervision, must be able to stand and work for prolonged periods of time
  • Must have acceptable corrected visual acuity and be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
Job Qualification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of cabinet making construction preferred.
  • Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret blueprints and renovation plans.
  • Must have valid driver's license, required.
  • Ability to use all standard power and hand tools, including carpentry and tile setter, saws, grinders, levels and other related equipment.
