Job summary

Tulane University seeks a skilled Carpenter to perform a full range of rough and finished carpentry work, including repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance. The role involves fabrication of furniture, doors, cabinets, countertops, and installation of trim and wall accessories.

Under supervision, the incumbent will assist other trades as needed and perform general maintenance tasks to keep facilities in good condition. This essential position may require duty during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in constructing door systems in walls and with sheet rock and acoustical ceilings.
  • Experience in mill work and floor finishing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general carpentry repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance.
  • Fabricate/assemble furniture, doors, cabinets, countertops and trim/wall accessories.
  • Assist other trades as directed and perform general maintenance tasks.

Under supervision and using tools and materials for general carpentry, perform repairs, new installations, and preventive maintenance according to industry standards in the trade. The Carpenter will perform a full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work, including fabrication and/or assembly of furniture, doors, cabinets and counter tops, and installation of trim and wall accessories. Perform other tasks by assisting all other trades as directed and perform general maintenance tasks.

This is an Essential Personnel position, which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies, and also can be designated by the supervisor as essential for the accomplishment of work, or for the completion of a critical task.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in construction of various door systems in walls and both sheet rock and suspended acoustical ceiling tiles.
  • Experience in mill work and floor finishing work.
