Role Summary

The Carpenter 3 will be responsible for performing complex carpentry tasks in concrete carpentry or finish carpentry on various construction projects, including new builds and renovations. This role may also involve supervising a team within the carpenter scope of work. Carpenters utilize a variety of tools and equipment. Responsibilities vary based on project needs and phases. All activities support JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
  • Knowledge of all concrete tools and carpentry hand tools.
  • Understanding of layout and construction math principles.
  • Set forms for concrete including foundations, SOG, bulkheads.
  • Place concrete using various methods and procedures.
  • Finish concrete with floats and trowels.
  • Maintain concrete and forming tools.
  • Proficiency in framing or forming basics.
  • Install in-wall and roof blocking, safety railings, and safety items.
  • Erect temporary partitions and doors.
  • Assist in installing doors, frames, and hardware.
  • Ensure PPE compliance and follow OSHA standards.
  • Own necessary hand tools and pouches.
  • Expected behaviors: punctuality, communication, respect, safety, positive attitude.
Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

In addition, this position will:

  • Concrete Carpentry: Place rebar, perform layout, install formwork, and finish concrete.
  • Finish Carpentry: Install casework, countertops, trim, wood paneling, doors, hardware, and accessories.
  • Lead by example, train team members, demonstrate expertise, and read project plans.
  • Complete reports, plan tasks, forecast materials, and coordinate safety and work schedules.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Work accurately, efficiently, and timely.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of trades, tools, and scopes of work.
  • Own and understand all relevant tools.
  • Basic layout and math skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service.
  • Build relationships and collaborate effectively.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Trade training or apprenticeship (preferred).
  • Relevant experience may substitute.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in specific trade.
  • Preferred: 5+ years in commercial construction.
Working Environment
  • Lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Work in extreme conditions, non-traditional hours.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Use respirators, work at heights, in trenches, and narrow spaces.
  • Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, and more.
