Performance Competencies & Responsibilities

Communication

• Effectively communicate material, tool, and personnel needs to supervisor
• Follow instructions and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and subcontractors

Planning

• Understand and interpret commercial blueprints and project specifications
• Perform necessary takeoffs per blueprints and specifications
• Procure materials and equipment in a timely manner

Health & Safety Expertise

• Monitor and ensure on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and organization
• Adhere to OSHA standards
• Complete OSHA 10 Certification
• Maintain VAMC Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) guidelines
• Maintain Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)

Construction Skills

• Study blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions and materials
• Install framing, drywall, doors, hardware, ceilings, and cabinets using various materials
• Layout and install window frames, doors, and trim with carpentry tools
• Erect scaffolding and ladders for above-ground structures
• Cut and repair materials as specified
• Inspect and ensure quality of structures and finishes
• Manage materials for workflow and safety
