At Mahaska Health the primary role of a carpenter is to be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of metal framing, wood, plywood, and wallboard, specifically tailored for health care environments. A carpenter’s expertise will play a critical role in ensuring that our facilities are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for both patients and staff. As a Carpenter, you will collaborate closely with other construction professionals and various departments to understand their needs and translate them into effective designs and implementations.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To,
- Responsible for performing journeyman level work. Various work responsibilities include, but not limited to, constructing, repairing, and maintaining metal framing and wooden structures. Furniture, equipment, partitions, counters, doors, windows, floors, and building framework for the hospital.
- Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of metal framing, wood, plywood, and wallboard in patient care areas.
- Collaborate with construction supervisor and facilities director and other construction professionals to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Inspect and assess existing structures for maintenance needs and repairs.
- Assist maintenance and facilities workers as needed.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards governing the operation and maintenance of healthcare facilities.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve design and construction challenges.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to improve skills and stay updated with industry standards.
- Document work completed and maintained accurate records for future reference.
- Manage and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to facility operations and safety.
- Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
- Ability to deal with confidential information.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.
- All other duties as assigned or requested.
Job Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To,
- Proven experience as a carpenter, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and materials used in construction and repair.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices relevant to the construction and healthcare industries.
- A minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in facilities management, preferably in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Valid carpenter's license and certifications as required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to healthcare facility management. Attend continued education course as needed.
- Required to have a valid driver’s license and proof of good driving record.
- Required to have limited liability insurance; coverage limit be $100,000 Each/ $300,000 Aggregate or $300,000 Combined Single Limit.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
