Job description

Ballard Marine Construction is a specialty marine and underwater contractor based in Washougal, WA, with regional offices and projects throughout North America.

Job Summary:

The job will consist of new construction or restoration on docks, boathouses, seawalls, retaining walls, boatlifts, decks, set piling, boardwalks, and dune walkovers for commercial, residential marine, and shoreline projects.

Education:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid Driver’s License with current driving record free from serious or frequent violation.
  3. Experience working with all types of woodworking equipment.

Experience:

  1. 3+ years’ experience as a marine construction worker familiar with form work, pouring concrete and pile driving operations.
  2. Experience with the installation of sheet piles, prestressed concrete piles, tubular steel piles and H-Piles.
  3. Experience with the construction of bridges, walkways, piers, boat ramps, seawalls, docks, wharfs, and jetties.
  4. Experience working with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel with the capability to learn new computer software including tablet-based safety programs and job/project reporting.

Skills:

  2. Ability to cut and weld steel, using underwater welding / burning equipment, jigs, and supports.
  3. Must be a highly reliable individual with good organizational skills and be able to work unsupervised.
  4. Great interpersonal and communications skills to effectively lead a crew and interact with customers.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct marine construction tasks under the direction of a crew leader.
  2. Shapes, cuts, drills, handles, and erect heavy treated timber caps, clamps, stringers, decking, etc.
  3. Installs various concrete form ties and accessories. Assists with reinforcement, grading, and other related tasks for concrete placement and removal.
  4. Safely operates power saws, grinders, roto hammers, power drills, Hilti guns, burning torches, impact wrenches, table saws, chains, and cable jacks.
  5. Performs layout accurately, using a rule, framing square, plumb bob, and level.
  6. Rigs property to move from one place/position to another.
  7. Signal and safely place heavy loads with crane assistance or other specialized lifting devices.
  8. Additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands / Working Environment:

  1. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  2. Moves heavy objects (94 lbs. or more) short distances (20’ or less).
  3. Moves light objects (less than 94 lbs.) long distances (more than 20’).
  4. Works in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  5. Lifts arms above shoulder level (i.e. lifts items into a truck or overhead area).
  6. Climbs ladders or steps to reach objects.
  7. Works at heights of up to 50’ or more.
  8. Works in confined or enclosed spaces.
  9. Sits or stands for long periods of time.
  10. Wears a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed boots, and other applicable PPE.
  11. Walks moderated distances to reach work area (1/2 mile or more).
  12. Sits in the operator’s seat of equipment and reaches all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc., required to safely operate the equipment.
  13. Sits in the operator’s seat of equipment and has an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows/mirrors.
  14. Adequate hearing, enough to receive and understand instructions, be alerted by horns, sirens, shouting, or any other noise that is meant to convey a safety warning.

Hourly Rates:

$20-$40/per hour
