Summary Description

The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform skilled carpentry work in support of the proper maintenance of District properties. The position is responsible for performing manual labor, maintaining equipment and tools, completing work orders in a timely manner with minimal service disruption, and maintaining accurate work records. The position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled carpentry work to support the maintenance of District facilities.
• Identify and inspect maintenance and repair needs and safety concerns throughout District facilities; evaluate and recommend the most efficient methods of repairs.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings; assist in estimating and planning project materials, costs, and labor requirements.
• Perform structural and finish repairs on buildings.
• Install or assist in installing walls, ceiling systems, millwork, roofing, floor coverings, doors, and windows; install equipment in windows or walls.
• Prepare specifications for, order, install, and maintain locking mechanisms on doors and windows; maintain master key controls/records.
• Build, alter, repair, modify, and/or install furnishings, fixtures, and equipment, including playground equipment, fencing, bleachers, and structures.
• Assist in supervising helpers, laborers, and contractors as assigned.
• Maintain trucks and equipment; perform cleaning, preventive maintenance, and simple repairs.
• Operate trucks, vehicles, hand tools, and power tools as necessary.
• Perform other maintenance and repair duties as assigned.
• Follow all department policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Document labor hours and materials used.
• Attend training and meetings to enhance skills.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience; valid Driver's License required.

This position will work in MSCS Zone 1 and Zone 3.
