PVH Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, WV seeks a skilled carpenter/maintenance technician to perform general carpentry, drywall, finishes, and related construction tasks to keep the hospital environment safe and functional. You will supervise maintenance staff, coordinate work, and handle preventive repairs across the facility.

The role requires strong carpentry and construction skills, familiarity with building codes, and the ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Provides necessary building maintenance construction services to maintain the hospital’s building and when necessary to repair, renovate and construct the hospital’s physical plant and its content to provide a livable and workable environment for employees, patients, and the community served.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Must have a current valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • High school education or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
  • Two (2) years of technical school training in trades and/or a minimum of ten years of appropriate commercial/residential construction experience preferred.
  • Must be skilled in all areas of carpentry and general construction.
  • Must be capable and skilled in functions noted but not limited to the following.
  • Office, room, building layout and planning
  • Rough framing – metal & wood
  • Finished carpentry
  • Drywall installation and finishing
  • Casework installation
  • Countertop installation
  • Lay-in ceiling installation
  • Carpet/VCT/vinyl floor covering installation
  • Concrete work and finishing
  • Brick and block work
  • Construction supervision
  • Project take-off and estimating project management
  • Must be familiar with tools, identification and use, related building codes, general mechanical repairs, machine operations and preventive maintenance gained through direct contact in a maintenance shop or maintenance activities. Hospital experience preferred.

  • Responsible for performing all types of general carpentry work, including, but not limited to, sheetrock work, framing, spackling/taping, suspended ceilings, masonry, flooring, roofing, cabinetry, door hardware and locksmithing.
  • Supervises general maintenance workers by allocating and coordinating work flow, training, and advising, in more complex repair work throughout the hospital.
  • Provides preventive and corrective repair work throughout the hospital.
  • Has access to, and is responsible for, performing assigned duties in locked medication rooms. This position is aware that they are not responsible for medications, and they should report any unsecured medications to a licensed professional.

  • Must be capable of following verbal and written instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building plans as supplied by supervisor and able to communicate and direct others in the project.
  • Ability to use personal computers including knowledge of Microsoft office applications required.
