Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary

Perform rough and finish carpentry work at interior and exterior locations. Duties include construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of wood structures, fixtures, and other carpentry-related components. Perform concrete and hardscape work as needed to support Facilities Management projects and maintenance needs.

Responsibilities

• Interior carpentry: Hang doors, minor wall framing, install cabinets and countertops, assemble and install metal and wood shelving. Hang plaques and pictures. Maintenance: Repair broken windows, broken tables and desks, mini blinds, and screens. Repair doors, chairs and drawers
• Exterior carpentry: Fabricate and install pedestal and related hardscape. Install plaques and perform exterior building repairs. Perform miscellaneous concrete work including patching sidewalks and driveways, filling potholes in parking lots (cold patch).
• Install exterior campus signage including parking lots requiring digging and concrete installation.
• Assist with rain leak emergencies including roof patching, sandbag filling, and placement, etc.
• Replacement of ceiling tiles in all buildings that have been damaged by rain, equipment leaks and by unknown persons.
• Measure, order and schedule completion of campus projects paying attention to completing and maintaining all necessary paperwork required by the department. Advise on applications techniques and materials choices and execute designs, per print, verbal instructions or sketches for campus partners.
• Contact contractors and vendors as necessary and follow-up to make sure work is completed to University standards.
• Assist other trades as requested or situation requires.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to plan, prioritize and complete carpentry projects.
• Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of campus staff, faculty and student population.
• Journey level knowledge and experience in use and operation of hand tools, hand power tools (drills, circular saws, reciprocating saws, belt sanders, etc.) and shop power tools (table saw, miter saw, wood planer, drill press, etc.). Journey level knowledge of materials, techniques and specialized carpentry tools.
• Ability for work in a variety of physical environments including ladders, man-lifts ect with heights of up to 30 feet.
• Ability to maintain a clean and safe area at all work locations including field locations, shop and break room.
• Ability to work positively in a team environment
