Job summary

Chapman University seeks a skilled Carpenter to perform rough and finish carpentry at interior and exterior locations on campus. Responsibilities include constructing, installing, repairing wood structures, fixtures and related components, plus concrete work to support Facilities Management.

The role requires journey-level tool proficiency, ability to work at heights, and a collaborative, safety-conscious approach to campus projects. On-campus position with departmental coordination.

• Measure, order and schedule campus projects, ensure paperwork.
• Contact contractors and vendors; ensure work meets university standards.
• Assist other trades as needed.

Salary offers are determinedbased on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, aswell as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary

Perform rough and finish carpentry work at interior and exteriorlocations. Duties include construction, installation, repair, andmaintenance of wood structures, fixtures, and othercarpentry-related components. Perform concrete and hardscape workas needed to support Facilities Management projects and maintenanceneeds.

Responsibilities

• Interior carpentry: Hang doors, minor wall framing, installcabinets and countertops, assemble and install metal and woodshelving. Hang plaques and pictures. Maintenance: Repair brokenwindows, broken tables and desks, mini blinds, and screens. Repairdoors, chairs and drawers
• Exterior carpentry: Fabricate and install pedestal and relatedhardscape. Install plaques and perform exterior building repairs.Perform miscellaneous concrete work including patching sidewalksand driveways, filling potholes in parking lots (cold patch).
• Install exterior campus signage including parking lotsrequiring digging and concrete installation.
• Assist with rain leak emergencies including roof patching,sandbag filling, and placement, etc.
• Replacement of ceiling tiles in all buildings that have beendamaged by rain, equipment leaks and by unknown persons.
• Measure, order and schedule completion of campus projectspaying attention to completing and maintaining all necessarypaperwork required by the department. Advise on applicationstechniques and materials choices and execute designs, per print,verbal instructions or sketches for campus partners.
• Contact contractors and vendors as necessary and follow-up tomake sure work is completed to University standards.
• Assist other trades as requested or situation requires.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to plan, prioritize and complete carpentryprojects.
• Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of campusstaff, faculty and student population.
• Journey level knowledge and experience in use and operation ofhand tools, hand power tools (drills, circular saws, reciprocatingsaws, belt sanders, etc.) and shop power tools (table saw, mitersaw, wood planer, drill press, etc.). Journey level knowledge ofmaterials, techniques and specialized carpentry tools.
• Ability for work in a variety of physical environmentsincluding ladders, man-lifts ect with heights of up to 30feet.
• Ability to maintain a clean and safe area at all work locationsincluding field locations, shop and break room.
• Ability to work positively in a team environment

• Five Years Experience in Construction and FinishCarpentry.
