Job summary

Nemacolin Resort in Pennsylvania seeks a Carpenter responsible for daily maintenance of resort furniture across facilities. You will perform finish carpentry, upholstery and furniture repair, color matching, and lacquer finishes to meet strict specifications.

The role requires reading construction drawings, selecting materials, and using a range of woodworking equipment. Strong teamwork and a flexible schedule including evenings/weekends are needed for on-site work at Nemacolin.

  • Requires a technical program completion and three years of carpentry experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to select materials and prepare layouts for carpentry projects.

The Carpenter will mix & color match finishes, demonstrate the ability to follow instruction, operate a variety of wood working equipment, and possess a desire to produce product to strict specifications.

The Carpenter is responsible for the daily/routine maintenance of the resort furniture on, and in, various facilities on property. Areas of knowledge and experience would include carpentry, upholstery, furniture repair, knowledge of color matching and lacquer finishes and preventative maintenance. The Carpenter will mix & color match finishes, demonstrate the ability to follow instruction, operate a variety of wood working equipment, and possess a desire to produce product to strict specifications.

Essential Functions

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine equipment and materials required and methods of installation to complete project.
  • Selects specified types of wood and other materials; determines amount necessary to complete project.
  • Prepares project layout using various measuring and marking tools including calipers, rule, framing square, pencil, chalk and marking gauge.
  • Cut and shape construction materials using manual and power tools. Sets up and operates machines including power saws, joiners, lathes, planers and shapers to cut and shape wood stock.
  • Assemble materials using nails, staples, dowel pins, glue, screws, etc.
  • Prepares & protects wood & other surfaces. Dips, brushes, or sprays assembled articles with protective or decorative materials, such as stain, varnish, or lacquer.
  • Performs work in specialized areas such as finish carpentry & cabinetry.
  • Constructs and repairs furniture, e.g. tables, desks, chairs, cabinets & shelves.
  • Installs hardware such as hinges, catches and drawer pulls using hand tools.
  • Receives and reviews work orders to estimate material cost and labor requirements.
  • Requisitions and/or purchases supplies and materials.
  • Performs prescribed maintenance checks as scheduled.
  • Performs numerous other related duties including, but not limited to, installing and repairing door closers, locks and related hardware; tailoring and installing window shades and repairing tools and equipment such as ladders, pike poles & tool handles.
  • May be required to respond to 24-hour emergency calls for assigned work area to perform emergency building or equipment repairs during off-duty hours using a vehicle, telephone, hand, power and specialty tools and necessary materials.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
  • Requires a minimum or an equivalent completion of a technical program and three years of carpentry experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, vocational students and coworkers is required.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend duty.
  • Must be able to speak English.
