Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC is seeking an experienced carpenter to construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood and related materials on job sites in Baton Rouge. You will read plans, measure precisely and build to specifications using hand and power tools, often with minimal supervision.

The role requires at least four years of carpentry experience, plus NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Four years of carpentry experience or more.
  • NCCER Industrial carpenter certification strongly desired.
  • Must pass our in-house Carpenter Assessment Test.
  • Able to read blueprints and interpret specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and studies blueprints or building plans for material and dimensions.
  • Selects and transports materials and tools required for the job.
  • Measures materials using square, tape or ruler and marks cutting lines.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials with nails, glue or dowels.
  • Braces forms in place for concrete piers/footings
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete
  • Builds false work to support structures during construction
  • Verifies trueness of structures with plumb bob or level
  • Erects/sc affolding up to 75 ft high and installs ladders/handrails
  • Builds benches, tables, tents and other wooden structures
  • Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy
  • Cleans scaffold yard and work areas

Position Description
PALA Interstate, LLC
Summary

Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard and pre-manufactured forms (Simon Forms, etc.) using hand tools and power tools. Reads, studies and interprets job specifications, plans and blue prints. Uses basic math skills including geometry, trigonometry to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.

Essential Functions
  • Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Selects and transports appropriate materials and tools for job.
  • Measures boards, timbers, plywood or other materials using a square, tape and/or ruler and marks cutting lines on material.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue or dowel pins.
  • Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings and walls.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise buildings undergoing construction.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenter’s level.
  • Erects and disassembles scaffolding up to 75 ft. high, installs ladders, handrails, toeboards, walkways, platforms and gangways.
  • Builds a variety of wooden structures needed on job site i.e., benches, tables, lunch/rest tents, etc.
  • Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Cleans scaffold yard and work areas.
  • Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurement and assembly of structures.
Position Requirements
Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum Four years’ experience in Carpentry work.
  • NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification strongly desired.
  • Must pass our in-house Carpenter Assessment Test
Preferred Education And Experience
  • High School or GED preferred but not required.
  • Trade School program preferred but not required.
