Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating and hydration.
  • Observe residents for changes in physical, mental, or emotional status and report to supervisor.
  • Provide memory care support using dementia-friendly techniques.
  • Maintain safety and confidentiality, document incidents, and follow infection prevention practices.
  • Escort residents to meals and activities; assist with meal setup and feeding as needed.
  • Promote resident dignity, independence, and engagement through positive interaction.

Legacy Oaks of Sacramento Assisted Living and Memory Care, located in Sacramento, CA is seeking a dedicated and passionate Caregiver I to provide high-quality care to the residents in our community.

Position Title: Caregiver I

Department: Various

Reports To: Resident Services Coordinator, Assisted Living Director, Memory Care Director, or Executive Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Desired Start Date: asap

Pay Rate/Benefits: $17.00-$19.00 per hour

Hours Per Week: 20-40hrs with opportunity to pick up additional overtime hours

Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday (Must have open availability to be scheduled)

Position Summary

The Caregiver I is responsible for providing compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care to residents in accordance with California Title 22 regulations, physician orders, individualized service plans, and company policies. The Caregiver promotes residents' dignity, independence, safety, comfort, and quality of life while assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), observing resident conditions, and promptly reporting changes to licensed nursing staff and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Resident Care
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including:
    • Bathing
    • Dressing
    • Grooming
    • Toileting
    • Oral hygiene
    • Incontinence care
    • Ambulation and transfers
    • Eating and hydration
  • Provide assistance using proper body mechanics and approved transfer equipment.
  • Encourage residents to remain as independent as possible.
  • Maintain resident dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
Resident Monitoring
  • Observe residents for changes in:
    • Physical condition
    • Mental status
    • Emotional well-being
    • Appetite
    • Mobility
    • Skin integrity
    • Behavior
  • Immediately report changes in condition to the supervisor or licensed nurse.
  • Respond promptly to residents call lights and requests for assistance.
Memory Care Responsibilities
  • Utilize dementia care techniques that promote resident dignity and reduce anxiety.
  • Redirect residents experiencing confusion or behavioral expressions.
  • Maintain a calm, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Participate in individualized behavioral interventions.
  • Monitor residents at risk for wandering or elopement.
Resident Safety
  • Maintain a safe environment by identifying and reporting hazards.
  • Follow infection prevention and universal precaution practices.
  • Follow emergency procedures including:
    • Fire
    • Earthquake
    • Medical emergencies
    • Elopement
    • Missing resident procedures
  • Properly document and report incidents immediately.
Documentation
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Record assistance provided according to company policy.
  • Report incidents, accidents, injuries, and unusual occurrences immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
Resident Engagement
  • Encourage resident participation in activities.
  • Assist residents to and from meals and activities.
  • Promote social interaction and emotional well-being.
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with residents and families.
Housekeeping Responsibilities
  • Maintain resident rooms in a clean and organized condition.
  • Make occupied and vacant beds.
  • Change linens as scheduled or as needed.
  • Assist with resident laundry when assigned.
  • Ensure wheelchairs, walkers, and resident equipment remain clean.
Dining Assistance
  • Escort residents to meals.
  • Assist with meal setup.
  • Provide feeding assistance as indicated.
  • Encourage adequate hydration.
  • Monitor meal intake and report concerns.
Team Responsibilities
  • Participate in shift reports.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments.
  • Assist co-workers during emergencies.
  • Participate in required meetings and training.
  • Maintain professionalism and positive teamwork.
Regulatory Responsibilities

The Caregiver shall:

  • Follow California Title 22 regulations.
  • Follow resident rights requirements.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality.
  • Report suspected abuse immediately.
  • Complete all mandatory annual training.
  • Maintain required certifications.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
  • Previous caregiving experience preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults or people living with dementia is preferred.
Certifications
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or obtain within required timeframe).
  • Current health screening and TB clearance.
  • Criminal background clearance as required by CDSS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Physical Requirements

Employee must frequently:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.
  • Push and pull wheelchairs.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and twist.
  • Assist with resident transfers.
  • Respond quickly during emergencies.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Frequent interaction with residents requiring varying levels of assistance.
  • Weekend, evening, holiday, and overtime work may be required.
