Job summary

Department: Nursing

Reports to: Nurse/AMAP on duty or Administrator

Position Summary

The caregiver provides assistance to residents as required with basic activities of daily living to support an independent lifestyle within the community.

Responsibilities
  1. Works well with residents; shows understanding and patience.
  2. Receives report from previous shift and gives report to on-coming shift by oral and written log.
  3. Informs supervisor of changes to resident’ conditions and needs. Documents these observations thoroughly and relays to other staff.
  4. Answers call bell and responds appropriately.
  5. Charts and logs all emergency calls. Report all incidents to administrator and on-coming staff.
  6. Provides personal services for the residents in a professional and efficient manner.
  7. Performs dining room service and assists residents with any dining needs.
  8. Perform housekeeping duties and keep a neat professional environment.
  9. Makes occupied beds daily when resident gets up in the morning and unoccupied beds on room cleaning day.
  10. Assists Residents, Visitors, and Guests as needed, be polite and professional.
  11. Maintains a positive and professional environment and projects a calm competent image.
  12. Adheres to all OSHA regulations and safety procedures when bending, lifting, and using equipment.
  13. Conserns themselves with the safety of the communities’ residents and visitors in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also ensures that the location adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes by being familiar with their role in carrying out the site’s fire, safety, and disaster plans and current MSDS.
  14. Puts residents service first. Ensures that the residents, families, and guests receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere and recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.
  15. Performs all other duties as requested.
Educational/Vocational Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  2. Previous experience as a “caregiver” preferred.
  3. 1st aid and CPR is preferred, we can provide if needed.
  4. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Physical demands

    a. Reaching (overhead), Handling, Fingering, Feeling, Talking/Hearing, and seeing.

    b. 90% of the time consists of standing or walking.

    c. Must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry between 50-80 lbs.

    d. You also may encounter having to climb (stairs), balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist.

  2. Environmental conditions

    a. You will be working in a building with central air, the temp is regulated by the state.

    b. May be loud noises or vibrations.

    c. Hazards include chemical, mechanical, and radiant energy.

    d. Atmospheric conditions

    i. May encounter fumes, mists, dust, odors, or gas.

    ii. Protective clothing is required for infection control during an illness outbreak.

    e. Work situations include: Dealing with people, repetitive and continuous, perform under stress, problem solving, comparing, and must be able to follow instruction.

Job Skills
  1. Must be in good physical and mental health.
  2. Must be able to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the general public.
  3. Must be willing to work different shifts and in different units as residents’ needs require. Specific scheduling will be under the care of the personnel care director.
  4. Annual verification of negative TB test done annually through questionnaire.
  5. Must possess the ability to work independently, problem solve, and make decisions as necessary.
