Job summary

Oakland University Career and Life Design Center seeks outgoing student-leaders to serve as Career Ambassadors for 2027-2028. CAs assist peers with career tasks, lead the Career Studio, and represent the center on campus.

These positions are 10–20 hours per week, with mandatory paid training week in Summer. Responsibilities include resume review, 1:1 advising, Handshake/LinkedIn guidance, career workshop delivery, and event support.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student enrolled at Oakland University for Fall 2027 and Winter 2028.
• Minimum 6 credits to be eligible for student employment.
• Work 10–20 hours per week during office hours (8 a.m.–5 p.m.).
• Basic computer skills and strong oral and written communication.
• Ability to present in front of a group.
• Comfortable working with students in group and one-on-one capacity.
• Team player
• Detail-oriented with customer service skills.
• Strong desire to positively represent Oakland University.
• Interested in helping students through career guidance utilizing resources, creativity, and advice.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Drop-In Career Studio during designated hours and provide career-related services to students in person or virtually.
• Review resumes and cover letters, provide feedback, and help schedule 1:1 appointments.
• Assist students with Handshake resources, sample resumes, transferable skills, and action statements.
• Provide resources to build confidence and interview performance.
• Help students/alumni create and update Handshake profiles.
• Help students/alumni update LinkedIn profiles for networking and job search.
• Prepare for Career Fairs and deliver career-related workshops.
• Collaborate with peer CAs to brainstorm engagement strategies.
• Support record keeping and attendance tracking via Handshake.
• Support staff with office tasks and special assignments when not assisting students.
