We are looking for passionate problem solvers who want to elevate design, push boundaries and create a more resilient future.

The Washington, DC office of SmithGroup is looking for a BIM Technician to join our Social Security Administration Headquarters team. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has invested heavily in modernizing its internal design process and facility management solutions with Building Information Models (BIM). This investment has created the need for talented BIM professionals to manage, update and maintain SSA’s BIM standards, models and data. BIM Technicians will directly interact with SSA’s internal design team and BIM leadership at SSA. This work will focus on the Headquarters location as well as support for remote SSA facilities.

SmithGroup’s SSA contract requires this position:

  • To be located on-site at the Social Security Headquarters facility in Baltimore, MD, with allowances for remote work as directed by the SSA.
  • To acquire a “Suitable” rating by the SSA after undergoing an SSA background check.

Working with us, you will:

  • Work directly with and report to SmithGroup’s onsite SSA BIM Manager
  • Maintain and continuously align the master Revit models with existing conditions at Headquarters
  • Manage the data within Revit's database and via data exports/imports
  • Develop, document, and train SSA staff on new BIM procedures
  • Maintain an up-to-date set of Headquarters as-built PDFs

An ideal candidate has:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience working with Autodesk Revit with advanced documentation and modeling skills
  • Proficiency in the Revit toolsets (Architecture, MEP and Structural), as well as familiarity with complementary BIM authoring software and related add-ins (Ideate Tools, and Imaginit Clarity).
  • Experience supporting Revit platform applications in complex model and team environments, including less common deliverables like IFC and COBie.
  • An understanding of other BIM Tools including Autodesk Navisworks and Autodesk Recap
  • Highly motivated self-sufficient abilities
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Experience documenting standards and comfort in instructing staff
  • Model integration experience with facility systems databases
  • Understanding/experience with Facility Management tools - FM Systems and IBM Tririga

At SmithGroup, we are committed to helping our staff thrive with great projects and time to unwind. We offer flexible scheduling, a hybrid work environment, 3 weeks of PTO within your first year of employment with the option of purchasing additional time off, 8 paid federal holidays, plus 15 extra Fridays off! Our benefits plan includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, wellbeing resources, paid parental leave, a flex spending account and voluntary insurance options. We invest in your future through our 401(k) program with employer matching, tuition reimbursement program, one-on-one career coaching and professional development opportunities. While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $81,000 to $89,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
