Wilson College is seeking a student-centered and collaborative Career Counselor to join our Student Development team. The Career Counselor plays an important role in helping students and alumni explore career pathways, develop professional skills, pursue employment and internship opportunities, and prepare for graduate and professional education.


This position provides individualized career coaching while developing and delivering engaging career programming designed to meet the evolving needs of Wilson students and the employment marketplace. The successful candidate will be an approachable and resourceful professional who enjoys building relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and community partners.


Essential Responsibilities


  • Provide career advising and coaching to undergraduate, graduate, and adult students and alumni through individual appointments, drop-in services, virtual resources, workshops, and special events.

  • Develop, deliver, and assess career development workshops and programs responsive to student needs and current employment trends.

  • Assist students with resumes, cover letters, interviewing skills, professional presentation, and other career-readiness skills.

  • Coach students on effective job and internship search strategies.

  • Support students exploring and applying to graduate and professional programs.

  • Help students identify career interests, skills, strengths, and potential academic and career pathways.

  • Provide intentional outreach and support to students experiencing academic challenges, including helping students assess skills and explore alternative majors or career options.

  • Utilize and maintain Handshake and other career-development resources for students and employers.

  • Collaborate with the Alumni Office to develop career connections, networking opportunities, and other resources for current students.

  • Connect students with appropriate campus, community, and external resources when additional support may be beneficial.

  • Participate in New Student Orientation, Phoenix Leaders, and other student engagement initiatives.

  • Develop social media and campus portal content designed to increase awareness of career services and student participation.

  • Build productive relationships with employers, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.

  • Serve on institutional committees and participate in the Student Development administrator-on-call rotation as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Relationship Building & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the College and with employers, alumni, and community partners.

  • Career & Workforce Knowledge: Knowledge of career development practices, employer recruiting strategies, job-market trends, occupational resources, and graduate and professional school pathways.

  • Technology & Digital Engagement: Ability to effectively utilize career-services technology, including Handshake or similar platforms, as well as digital and social media tools to engage students and promote career resources.

  • Organization & Initiative: Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, programs, appointments, and projects while exercising sound judgment and attention to detail.

  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Ability to assess individual student needs, identify appropriate resources and solutions, and adapt services and programming to changing student and institutional needs.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within Student Development and across the College.


Position Type & Expected Hours of Work


  • Full-time, 12-month position.

  • Regular work schedule is generally Monday through Friday during established College business hours.

  • Some evening and weekend hours are required to support programs, events, and other departmental or College activities.

  • Participation in the Student Development administrator-on-call rotation is required.

  • The position may require occasional schedule flexibility based on student needs, programming, and institutional priorities.


Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, career development, human resources, or a related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience advising, counseling, coaching, or supporting students or clients in career, employment, or professional development matters.

  • Experience in higher education, career services, student affairs, workforce development, recruiting, or a related environment preferred.

  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops, presentations, programs, or other educational initiatives preferred.

  • Experience with Handshake or a similar career-services or recruiting platform preferred.

  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
