Job summary

LifeSkills Connection Inc. is seeking a Career Counselor to deliver counseling and crisis intervention to both residential and non-residential students within a Career Services framework.

Reporting to the Career Services Manager, the role focuses on individual and group counseling, documentation, and facilitating student pathways to further education or training. Exempt, fulltime, on-site in a federally compliant environment with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to counseling or social services.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in counseling or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced eligibility.

• Support students in seeking advanced training opportunities and college admittance.
• Maintain CIS case notes monthly and ensure documentation complies with policies.

• Administer leaves and passes in CIS to adhere to DOL policies
• Conducts individual counseling sessions at least monthly and uses RAP format to document
• Conduct group sessions as assigned
• Enter monthly case-notes in CIS using RAP format
• Assist students in seeking advanced training opportunities, i.e., technical training or college admittance
• Ensure all documentation of communications with parents, guardians and Admissions Counselors in regard to the resolution of students’ problems is maintained
• Establish meaningful working relationships with other staff members and act as a resource person to help these individuals deal positively with student behavior
• Visit classrooms and dormitories to establish meaningful working relationships with instructors and residential advisors and act as a liaison between students and these departments
• Provide information to the Center Standards Officer (CSO) and, upon request, represent the students at review panels
• Meet with CSO for consultation on individual and group problems
• Ensure referrals are developed and copies of all individual progress reports, counseling, and disciplinary referrals from Center staff are completed, and follow-up information is provided
• Serve as a member of committees to review policies and procedures relating to the counseling program and the Center’s operation as directed
• Ensure Evaluations of Student Progress (ESP’s) are completed
• Transport students to and from bus stations and other scheduled appointments when necessary
• Work toward meeting performance management goals that include: % of completers, % Unauthorized Absence (UA) separations with HSD/GED; CTT completion, CTT credential
• Follow CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily
• Ensure UAs are conducted and documented with follow up by PRH requirements
• Ensure updated CIS case notes (at least monthly) in required format are completed on all students
• Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices
• Demonstrate and abide by LifeSkills Connection’s core values and operating principles
• Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, LifeSkills Connection’s policies and procedures, and Center policies and procedures
• Model, mentor, monitor appropriate Career Success Standards
• Help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement
• Participate in PRH mandated staff training; Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
• Perform other duties as assigned
