Job summary

S:US is seeking a dedicated Vocational Specialist for its family shelter program at Echo Place, Bronx, NY. Primary duties include conducting client assessments, identifying barriers to employment, and coordinating referrals with Case Management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and two years of applicable experience or a minimum of six years of applicable experience.
• Knowledge of the complex interaction of homelessness, substance use disorder, mental health and domestic violence with sensitivity to cultural and gender-specific issues.
• Knowledge of HRA, entitlements and homeless shelter system.
• Knowledge of vocational education, labor market trends and employment opportunities in both private and public sectors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments interviews to elicit information relative to client’s skills, education, abilities and interest.
• Identify barriers to employment and collaborate with Case Manager for referrals.
• Assist clients in developing vocational education service plans and monitor implementation.
• Document counseling, assessment, testing and service plans in client folders.
• Coordinate the EM Path economic mobility program.
• Maintain employment and vocational/educational training data bank and liaise with providers.
• Provide career coaching, resume/cover letter assistance, job search, and applications.
• Design and facilitate adult life skills workshops (budgeting, tenant behavior, home maintenance).
• Develop job bank for direct placement services.
• Maintain tracking forms for placements and reports.
• Conduct vocational workshops.
• Attend trainings and meetings; perform other duties as required.
