Job summary

Tacoma Community College seeks a dynamic and innovative individual to serve as our Career and Employment Services Coordinator. The coordinator will ensure students are supported in career development, including career choice, planning, job search, and employment assistance, while increasing visibility of career services on campus.

This role collaborates with Advisors, Navigators and faculty to implement student- and industry-focused strategies, reducing equity gaps in enrollment and retention,

• Coordinate the operations of the Career Center and evaluates and maximizes the usage of services and tools by the campus.
• Deliver targeted career and employment focused services, activities and events in collaboration with Career Pathway Specialists, other college staff and community partners.
• Support the work of the Pathway Specialists, Advisors and Navigators to identify and address the career development needs of special populations including ELA/BEdA, Workforce, Returning Adults, first generation, and others.
• Facilitate and provide collaborative programing such as job and career fairs, employer specific events, panels and spotlights to ensure student access to relevant and timely information
• Provide one-on-one and group services to students, alumni, and community members in the areas of job search and career planning
• Guide students on aspects of career planning and job search to include job search strategies, resume development, completing job applications, cover letter writing, job interview skills, networking, LinkedIn, employer research, career planning, and career resources
• Support the work of the Transfer Pathways Specialist in their work to strengthen career and transfer knowledge and strong connections to partner institutions.
• Support, train and supervise other career center staff (student and part-time) to ensure delivery of high‑quality job search/ career planning information which is relevant to student needs.
• Support faculty in the development and delivery of in‑class and virtual workshops regarding job search and career development topics; Understand the college programs/majors, their related employment environments and the employment practices in each field.
• Maintain current knowledge of labor market conditions, local employers and hiring trends. Provide labor market information to students, staff and administration.
• Collaborate with college leaders to create connection points to support employer relations at the college. Respond to employer inquiries about recruiting at the college and engage in employer outreach. Ensure employers have information about posting jobs, setting up recruiting tables and participating in employer events such as speaker panels and job fairs
• Maintain knowledge and appropriate referral mechanisms for community agencies and organizations providing career and employment resources. This includes programs such as: WIOA, Employment Security, Worksource Pierce

Position Summary

The coordinator will serve in a key role in ensuring students are supported in all aspects of career development including career choice and planning and job search and employment assistance. This position promotes the visibility of career services across the campus and ensures the smooth operation of the Career Center in its services to students, instructors, staff, alumni and employers. This position will work closely with Program Pathways Specialist, Advisors, Navigators and faculty to implement strategies that are student and industry focused resulting in increased awareness and access to information, resources and guidance with a focus on decreasing equity gaps in enrollment and retention.

This position is part of the Academic Affairs division and Workforce Education Department and works closely with key departments in the Student Affairs Division.
