Job summary

Memorial Health System is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nurses in delivering patient care and to assist with unit operations. The role includes rounding, clerical tasks, chart management, and patient-family teaching within HIPAA guidelines.

The position emphasizes teamwork, safety, infection control, and maintaining clear communication across departments to enhance the patient experience and unit efficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required – will obtain during hospital orientation.
• Maintains compliance in RQI required.
• Interpersonal, clerical, numerical and manual dexterity required; color and near visual acuity.
• Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
• Ability to read, write and do math as generally demonstrated by a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Performs hourly rounding.
• Performs clerical functions including maintaining chart order, answering telephones, and entering of written physician’s orders in Meditech.
• Coordinates patient flow and information with the charge nurse to maintain communication between departments.
• Assists with all aspects of patient care and non-patient care (e.g. cleanliness of unit, supplies) within scope of practice as assigned by RN.
• Assists with patient/family teaching as appropriate.
• Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Enters daily outpatient and observation room charges.
• Complies with safety and infection control standards related to position.
• Maintains open lines of communication between self and professional staff.
• Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team.
• Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information.
• Assumes responsibility for own behavior.
• Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
