Job summary

Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) II to perform patient care activities under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This full-time day shift role supports vital signs, ADLs, and safety, with emphasis on compassionate, patient-centered care.

Qualified candidates will have at least one year of patient care experience, familiarity with Core Competencies, and a Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of employment. BLS preferred.

Qualifications

• One year of prior patient care experience (e.g. CNA/EMT/PCT) or similar role in an acute care setting.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted by Memorial Hermann’s tool and validated during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Assists with vital signs, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and activities of daily living.
• Documents information timely and accurately and reports changes to the nurse.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
• Supports orientation of new employees and adheres to MH policies and budgetary guidelines.

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including but not limited to identifying and responding to abnormal findings, appropriately escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and activities of daily living (ADL’s). The PCT II provides assistance with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and progress activity and practices patient and family centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: (None)

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by (AHA) American Heart Association within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

• One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g. Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician) or similar role required, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool and as validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

Principal Accountabilities

• Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Direct patient care duties include but are not limited to vital signs (pre and post treatment, as applicable), visual monitoring of a patient’s condition, hygiene support, toileting support, mobility support, nutrition support, bathing support, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of information. Should appropriately report any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
• Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
• Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes; follows safety rules; works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors; participates in organizational departments’ safety programs; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies and procedures.
• Obtains and prepares laboratory specimens as prescribed within the scope of the role.
• Helps orient new employees as appropriate.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
