Job summary

Oliver Woods Assisted Living and Memory Care in Owosso, MI is seeking a shift leader for 2p–10p or 10p–6a to oversee resident care and support the care team. This full‑time role includes tuition reimbursement and full benefits; on-site presence is required during shifts.

Responsibilities include mentoring staff, administering medications per orders, and maintaining accurate charting and safe resident care. A high school diploma/GED and Care Specialist I & II training are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Care Specialist I and II within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum 6 months of related care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead shift and coordinate resident care on 2p–10p or 10p–6a.
  • Mentor care team members and orient new staff.
  • Administer medications per physician orders and update eMAR.
  • Maintain resident safety and documentation per policies.
  • Respond to calls and alarms promptly and professionally.

Position Summary

Responsible for shift team leadership and resident care needs for community. Must be on premises while on duty.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as ‘go-to’ resource person for team members
  • Participate with orientation and training for care team members
  • Foster a positive work environment and strong support for developing skills with other care team members
  • Assure that residents are treated with kindness and respect, through mentoring and modeling appropriate care and customer service when orientating new care team members
  • Protect residents from accidents and injuries by practicing safe work habits and safe lifting habits
  • Be responsible for the safety of residents in the case of emergency
  • Assist with schedule coverage needs as necessary
  • Review and provide resident care as outlined in resident service plans
  • Answer resident call signals, as well as door and safety alarms promptly
  • Administer/pass medications to residents according to physician orders and policies
  • Review and process physician orders utilizing eMAR in conjunction with pharmacy support
  • Conduct departmental reviews/audits. Providing results to Director of Resident Care
  • Assure adequate medication and supply inventory for residents
  • Observe and report non-emergent resident behavior and condition changes to Care Coordinator and/or Director of Resident Care
  • Complete daily charting and documentation as required
  • Follow and comply with infection control, safety, emergency and confidentiality policies and procedures
  • Promote positive relationships with residents, staff and visitors
  • Remain awake and alert while on shift

Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience

High school diploma/GED and successful completion of Care Specialist I and II curriculum within 90 days of hire and at least 6 months of recent experience as a Care Specialist or equivalent experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses

Must have CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.

Computer Skills

Must have demonstrable knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office in a Windows environment, with a capacity to master company specific software.
