Job summary

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals per planned menus and recipes; consults supervisor or dietitian for menu changes.
• Reviews menus and production guides to determine quantities of food to be prepared.
• Prepares food following safe handling guidelines and regulations.
• Assists with ordering, storage and timely preparation of meals.
• Maintains quality and follows standardized recipes; uses substitutes when required.
• Operates kitchen utensils and equipment; cooks using various methods.
• Prepares modified and diet foods; assists with special function meals.
• Performs prep tasks (washing, peeling, cutting) and portions meat for nutrition accuracy.
• Presents meals attractively with gravies, sauces and garnishes; tests for palatability.
• Monitors food temperatures and records results.
• Makes menu changes with supervisor approval; uses substitutes as directed.
• Practices proper hand hygiene, thawing, labeling, and temperature checks.
• Cleans and maintains kitchen and equipment after use; follows cleaning schedule.
• Meets meal schedules and timelines.
• In absence of Dietary Manager, reports to Cook.
• Other duties as assigned.
