Care Coordinator - Part-time & Full-time Positions

Newport Academy is a gender‑specific, comprehensive treatment program for adolescents and young adults with co‑occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. The program combines psychological, biological, spiritual, social, and educational components to provide a holistic, individualized approach to care.

We are seeking Care Coordinators to assist and supervise residents with daily activities, monitor behavior, administer medication, and transport residents to and from meetings and appointments. All Care Coordinators will serve as positive role models and must complete required trainings and background checks with DCF and State Police.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Facilitate residents’ daily activities in the residential setting, including assistance with chores, meal service, laundry, and other routine tasks.
  • Observe and monitor residents’ behavior and intervene according to schedules, individual treatment plans, and house needs.
  • Facilitate assigned groups, meetings, and activities per the Newport Academy program.
  • Document observations and interventions in resident records and shift reports.
  • Coordinate milieu treatment with counseling staff.
  • Transport residents to and from appointments and outside meetings.
  • Ensure transportation safety by conducting inspections after driving Newport Academy vehicles and following documented safety rules.
  • Monitor residents’ phone calls during designated hours.
  • Ensure physical plant safety and security by conducting regular shift checks.
  • Conduct intakes and orientations with new residents, including paperwork and policy review.
  • Follow emergency procedures for medical and psychiatric emergencies, run‑aways, AWOLs, self‑injurious behavior, and assaultive behavior.
  • Provide one‑to‑one supervision of residents at risk for AMA, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, etc.
  • Conduct urinary analysis screening and collection following appropriate procedures once trained.
  • Search residents’ rooms when illegal drugs or contraband are suspected.
  • Attend meetings as an interdisciplinary team member.

  • Maintain structure within the house, set limits, and enforce boundaries with residents.
  • Observe interactions and intervene early to prevent crises.
  • Communicate with residents using a positive, supportive tone to create a nurturing environment.
  • Show compassion and active listening, appreciating each resident’s cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity.
  • Manage multiple tasks while remaining calm and patient.
Qualifications

Minimum educational requirement: working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in human services, counseling, psychology, or social work, or obtaining a state‑approved credential. Alternatively, a minimum of one year of experience working with adolescents and families with co‑occurring disorders is acceptable.

Must pass trainings and background checks with DCF and State Police. Experience or education in human services, psychology, or substance abuse is a definite plus.

All Care Coordinators are expected to model positive behavior and serve as role models for residents.
