Job summary

Dell Medical School in collaboration with supervising physicians expands individualized cardiovascular and thoracic healthcare by diagnosing and treating adult patients. This role supports the cardiovascular operating room and related care pathways.

You will assist in surgery, perform assessments, order and interpret diagnostics, provide treatment, and educate patients and families. Board-certified PA with Prescriptive Authority and cardiothoracic first-assist experience is required.

Qualifications

• A board-certified Physician Assistant in good standing with Prescriptive Authority and minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting.
• Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
• Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.
• Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Operating Roombased Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.
• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies.
• Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.
• Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
• Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.
• Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
