HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital in Charleston, SC is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic CT-APP (Physician Assistant or Acute Care NP) to join our growing program. The role blends operative first assist, ICU management, and perioperative patient care within a high-volume cardiac program.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of first-assist CT experience, EVH preferred, SC license, and a collaborative mindset to support two surgeons and three APPs while maintaining excellent patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
• Have a South Carolina license or the ability to get a South Carolina license prior to starting.
• 2+ years experience in first- assist for adult cardiothoracic procedures (CABG, valves, aortic surgery) or other complex surgical procedures.
• EVH experience preferred (willing to train).
• Participate in urgent and emergent operative cases.

Responsibilities

• Daily management of postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
• Hemodynamic assessment and management.
• Coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
• Discharge planning and transition of care.
• Participation in night and weekend OR call with expected coverage 1:3. No overnight shifts required.

Join a Growing Cardiothoracic Surgery Program

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Cardiothoracic APP (Physician Assistant or Acute Care NP) to join our expanding cardiothoracic surgery program. The position offers a balanced blend of operative first assisting, ICU management, and perioperative patient care within a high-volume cardiac program.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a collaborative environment alongside cardiothoracic surgeons and is committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes across a continuum of care.

Qualified Candidates/Details

• Graduated from an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program
• Have a South Carolina license or the ability to get a South Carolina license prior to starting
• 2 or more years’ experience in first-assist for adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures (CABG, valves, aortic surgery) or other complex surgical procedures
• Endoscopic saphenous vein harvest (EVH) preferred (willing to train)
• Participate in urgent and emergent operative cases

Intensive Care Unit & Inpatient Management

• Daily management of postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients
• Hemodynamic assessment and management
• Coordination of multidisciplinary teams
• Discharge planning and transition of care
• Participation in night and weekend OR call with expected coverage 1:3. No overnight shifts required

Procedural Responsibilities

Preferred candidates will have experience with:

• Chest tube placement and management
• Central venous catheter placement
• Arterial line placement
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal

Training Opportunities

• Advanced perioperative cardiothoracic procedures
