Job summary

AscendMedical seeks a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a locum opportunity in Missouri. The role involves leading advanced cardiovascular procedures, including CABG, valve surgery, TAVR, and thoracic tumor cases, in a high-volume program.

Responsibilities include pre-operative evaluations, planning, and post-operative care in CVICU and step-down units, with collaboration in tumor boards and heart teams to ensure patient safety and outcomes. On-call duties will be shared with the surgical team.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of ACGME-accredited residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible by ABTS or equivalent.
• Unrestricted Missouri medical license eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced cardiovascular procedures including CABG (on/off-pump), valve repair/replacement, TAVR, and aortic surgery.
• Perform lung resections, mediastinal mass excisions, VATS, and chest wall procedures.
• Conduct pre-operative evaluations, develop surgical plans, and manage post-operative recovery in CVICU/step-down units.
• Participate in tumor boards, heart team conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Share equitable on-call duties for emergency cardiovascular and thoracic cases.

Practice Description:

Key Responsibilities

• Surgical Excellence: Perform advanced cardiovascular procedures including, but not limited to, CABG (on/off-pump), valve repair/replacement (AVR/MVR), TAVR, aortic surgery, and peripheral vascular interventions.
• Thoracic Scope: Utilize general thoracic surgery experience to perform lung resections, mediastinal mass excisions, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and chest wall procedures.
• Patient Continuity: Conduct comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, develop tailored surgical plans, and manage post-operative recovery within the CVICU and dedicated cardiac step‑down units.
• Collaborative Care: Actively participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, heart team conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient safety and clinical outcomes.
• On-Call Duties: Share equitable call coverage for emergency cardiovascular and thoracic surgical interventions with the existing surgical team.

Job Requirement

• MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine.
• Training: Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in General Surgery and an accredited fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or equivalent. Licensure: Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the state of Missouri.
• Experience: Proven competency in a high-volume cardiac program. Demonstrated experience or sub-specialty exposure to general vascular, general thoracic oncology, or non-cardiac thoracic pathology is strongly preferred.
