Cardiovascular Special Procedures Technician (IR Cath Lab)

Fast-paced, high volume IR Cath Lab department is looking for top skilled technicians. Is that you?

Work location: Texas Health Southwest Fort Worth: 6100 Harris Pkwy, Ft. Worth, TX 76132

Work hours: Full-time (40 hours/week), 4-10 hr shifts, call required

Department highlights:

Our experienced and compassionate team in Cardiac Cath / IR Lab care for patients with Cardiac, Peripheral Vascular or Electrophysiology related disease. Additionally, we offer Interventional Radiology procedures such as vascular access, biliary and urinary interventions, and venous and arterial thrombectomy. For our clinical staff, we require a 30-minute call response time which includes STEMI call.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Southwest Fort Worth

At Texas Health Southwest and Texas Health Clearfork we’re one hospital in two locations. We’re a 261-bed, full-service hospital serving southwest Fort Worth and surrounding areas since 1987.

We specialize in surgical services, orthopedics, rehab services, imaging services and adult critical care, and we have a 24-hour emergency department. Plus, we are a certified Primary Heart Attack center, certified Primary Stroke center, Level III Trauma, Level III Maternal, Level III Neonatal center, certified Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement facility, and a nationally accredited Breast Center.

Texas Health Southwest has received Magnet designations, plus a CMS 5-Star rating, the US News & World Report top hospital award, and multiple awards for STEMI/NSTEMI.

Here's What You Need:
Education:
  1. Associate Degree in Applied Science required or
  2. Completion of an accredited program in cardiovascular technology required. Must obtain RCIS within six (6) months of hire or
  3. High school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years’ work experience in invasive cardiology required
  4. CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency required
Experience:
  1. One (1) year vascular or cardiac angiography experience preferred
  2. Two (2) years’ experience with high school diploma required
Licensure and Certifications:
  1. ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists upon hire required
  2. GMRT-General Medical Radiologic Technologist (if ARRT only) upon hire preferred
  3. RCIS - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (obtain within six (6) months if graduate from Cardiovascular Accredited Program) upon hire required
  4. LMRT - Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist (if RCIS only) upon hire preferred
  5. RCES - Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (for Electrophysiology Labs (EP) only) upon hire required
  6. BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly) required
  7. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support within ninety (90) days of hire required
Position Responsibilities

Texas Health Interventional Radiology Technologists are responsible for assessing and recognizing the patient’s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions.

In addition to the required qualifications, a successful Interventional Radiology Tech will:

Patient Care
  1. Uses multidisciplinary, team-oriented actions
  2. Assesses and recognizes the patient’s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive and psychosocial conditions
  3. Prepares room for examination (i.e. suction, oxygen, supplies)
  4. Checks physician orders and exam requisitions using time-out procedures
  5. Greets and acknowledges patient, using two forms of ID
  6. Obtains patient history
  7. Handles patients with IVs, oxygen, chest tubes or other devices, and monitor patient during imaging
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency drugs and equipment
  9. Uses proper body mechanics when assisting patient
  10. Under the supervision of a provider and in accordance with regulatory code requirements, will provide assistance to the provider while administering contrast media.
  11. Processes patient information, displays proper phone etiquette and transports patients as needed
Imaging Procedures, Quality and Processing
  1. Explains procedures to patient or guardian / family member if applicable prior to exam
  2. Positions patient to correct anatomical area of interest
  3. Performs complex procedures including age related criteria and developmental considerations
  4. Adjusts technique parameters appropriately for age related factors
  5. Assists licensed practitioner or provider with complex and invasive procedures using aseptic technique
  6. Maintains attention to details
  7. Utilizes proper downtime procedures for PACS and HIS / RIS
  8. Correctly sends and transfers images to PACS
  9. Prints laser images from modality or PACS
  10. Coordinates with Centralized Scheduling and other modalities
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
  1. Adjusts technical factors
  2. Operates, cares for and maintains equipment
  3. Applies knowledge of physics and accessories
  4. Troubleshoots and properly documents equipment malfunction
  5. Maintains equipment and room to sanitary standards
  6. Stocks supplies
  7. Exchanges and maintenance of film badges within designated time frames
  8. Demonstrates the knowledge and understanding of quality control and regulatory standards
Professional Accountability and Partnership
  1. Maintains and enhances technical skills and technology advancement
  2. Attends departmental continuing education, meetings, and checks email
  3. Identifies, troubleshoots and initiates quality improvement
  4. Manages time and re-prioritizes as necessary
  5. Performs any assignment deemed necessary by supervisor
