Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Provides diagnostic echocardiographic and vascular exams as prescribed by licensed physicians and according to company policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The technician will perform echocardiograms and vascular testing as prescribed by a licensed physician and per department protocols. This includes the provision of a written worksheet and preliminary technician impression of findings.
  • Responsible, in association with the technical director and medical directors, for the accuracy of the laboratory tests.
  • Compliance with protocols for maintaining equipment safety and calibration. quality control standards for testing protocols and equipment maintenance
  • Adheres to clinic standards regarding aseptic technique, infection control, and safety guidelines.
  • Evaluate orders for appropriate use criteria and reach out to the ordering provider for more information if the test is not considered appropriate.
  • Performs billing and other related work as required.
  • Orders, receives, and stocks supplies and equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development activities, meetings, and continuing education as directed by their registries and lab accreditation.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Programs as set forth by their facility and accreditation. Assists Technical director in case review and meetings.
  • Collaborates with other technicians and staff for transitional patient care from one modality to the next.

Requirements

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate in Applied Science or equivalent required. Masters or Bachelors Degree highly encouraged.
  • Must be registered or registry eligible (actively pursuing registry) in one of the following:
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and/ or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), as issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Registered through the ARRT or CCL equivalent
  • Maintain CMEs per triennium in echocardiogram testing and fifteen CMEs per triennium in non-invasive vascular ultrasound as required by the ARDMS.
  • One-year prior ultrasound experience is required.
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. (ACLS encouraged)

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires sitting and computer screen time for extensive periods. Requires strain and contraction of specific muscle groups for greater than ten minutes at a time to obtain images. Requires advanced critical thinking to apply to pathophysiology found within an exam. Requires appropriate communication and collaboration between ordering and reading physicians. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
