Job summary

Logan Health in Kalispell, Montana, is seeking a Cardiovascular Operating Room Circulating RN to join a highly specialized surgical team performing open-heart surgeries and complex cardiovascular procedures. You’ll coordinate care across surgeons, anesthesia, perfusionists, and techs in a fast-paced environment where precision and teamwork drive outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide comprehensive nursing care before, during, and after complex cardiovascular procedures.
• Serve as circulating nurse for open-heart and other cardiovascular surgeries.
• Collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesia, perfusionists, and surgical team.
• Ensure availability and functionality of specialized cardiovascular equipment and supplies.
• Maintain sterile technique and patient safety.
• Monitor patient status and respond to changing conditions.
• Document and communicate care to ensure continuity across the surgical experience.
• Participate in on-call coverage for emergent cardiovascular procedures.

What You’ll Do

• Coordinate and provide comprehensive nursing care before, during, and after complex cardiovascular surgical procedures.

• Serve as the circulating nurse for open-heart and other cardiovascular surgeries while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient operating room.

• Collaborate closely with cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, surgical technologists, and the multidisciplinary care team.

• Anticipate procedural needs while ensuring the availability and functionality of specialized cardiovascular equipment and supplies.

• Maintain the highest standards of sterile technique, patient safety, infection prevention, and surgical quality.

• Monitor patient status throughout procedures and rapidly respond to changing patient conditions.

• Advocate for patients while ensuring accurate documentation, communication, and continuity of care throughout the surgical experience.

• Participate in on‑call coverage for emergent cardiovascular procedures.

What We’re Looking For

Required

• Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice in Montana.

• RQI Provider (BLS) certification within seven (7) days of hire/transfer or prior to providing independent patient care.

• Strong understanding of professional nursing practice, patient assessment, and perioperative care principles.

• Ability to remain calm, organized, and decisive in high‑acuity, rapidly changing situations.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred

• BSN degree.
• Two (2) or more years of operating room or acute care nursing experience.
• Previous cardiovascular, open‑heart, operating room, critical care, or surgical services experience.
• Experience working with advanced surgical technology and complex cardiovascular procedures.
• Additional specialty certifications applicable to perioperative or cardiovascular nursing.

Job Description

Qualifications:

• Current Montana RN license or a multi‑state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana required.
• BSN degree preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar position within a medical setting (e.g., physician office, clinic, or hospital) preferred. Experience in assigned area(s) preferred.
• Possess knowledge of professional nursing theory, medical terminology, and principles of professional nursing practice to administer and evaluate patient care.
• RQI Provider (BLS)requiredwithin 7 days of hire/transfer or before independent patient care, whichever occurs first.
• Understanding the confidentiality laws that govern the provider‑patient relationship, including but not limited to, HIPAA guidelines.
• Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office, simple routine clinical laboratory methods, universal blood and body fluid precautions.
• Must have knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations, established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items; restrictions imposed by various manage care carriers, various forms inherent to profession.

Additional requirements per assigned areas:

Obstetrics (OB)

• ACLS and NRP must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer
• STABLE and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

• NRP must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.
• STABLE must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.

Pediatrics (PEDS) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

• PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.
• APHON must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.

Emergency Department

• ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.
• TNCC and ENPC must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.

ALERT

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in both the ICU and ED.
• ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.
• NRP must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.
• TNCC or ATLS audit must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.
• STABLE must be obtained within 1 year of hire/transfer.
• Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring or equivalent must be obtained within one (1) year of hire/transfer.
• TPATC must be obtained within two (2) years of hire/transfer.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

• ACLS and NIHSS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

• NIHSS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Endoscopy

• ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

• ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Job Specific Duties:

• Develops, implements and coordinates individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients using the nursing process as appropriate for RN’s as applicable to the assigned area(s).
• Maintains nursing standards of care and responds to changing workloads and patient conditions by remaining calm, making objective assessments, prioritizing, and asking for assistance as appropriate.
• Transcribes and implements provider orders and treatments both verbal and written accurately and efficiently as noted by chart reviews and observation. Consistently problem solves issues affecting patient care.
• Exhibits a thorough practice of infection control procedures per policy and procedure as applicable to the assigned area(s).
• Identifies, verbally evaluates, and reports identified reaction changes in the stated physical and mental conditions of patients.
• Documents all encounters with patients seeking health advice according to organizational standards, while clearly demonstrating the nursing process.
• Provides individual instruction and education to patients and families concerning health and medical needs per department protocol and as applicable to assigned area(s).
• Assess and anticipate the needs of the patient, and coordinate the necessary interventions as defined by policy, procedure and the written/verbal orders of the provider as applicable to assigned area(s).
