Job summary

Catholic Health Services in West Islip, NY seeks a Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant to provide patient care, perform exams, manage data, and support the Cardiothoracic Surgery Service.

The PA will work as first/second assistant, assist in pre/post-operative care, perform orders, and participate in on-call coverage under the surgeon's supervision; New York license and NCCPA certification required, DEA license, BLS/ACLS.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program; Master’s degree preferred.
• New York State PA license required.
• Current NCCPA certification required.
• BLS/ACLS/AED certification required.
• DEA license required.
• Previous cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon as first or second assistant in all cardiothoracic procedures.
• Harvest and prepare graft veins for CABG when needed.
• On-call to assist surgeons in urgent or emergency cases.
• Prepare preoperative and postoperative orders and care.
• Write orders for labs, medications and patient care.
• Provide pre- and post-operative care under the surgeon's supervision.
