Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, seeks a Physician Assistant in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Section at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

The PA provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for inpatient and SICU patients, coordinating with physicians and PA/ARNP providers to ensure high-quality care. Responsibilities

• Provide medical and surgical care for inpatients and outpatients in cardiothoracic surgery and SICU.
• Coordinate patient care among physicians and PA/ARNP providers.
• Design and conduct comprehensive examinations, diagnose, and implement treatment plans.
• Prepare admission orders and discharge summaries; order labs and radiographic studies.
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans.
• Assist the surgeon in the operating room and perform first/second assist duties as needed.
• Place and manage invasive lines and tubes (arterial lines, central lines, drains) as required.
• Coordinate preoperative surgical requirements and admission arrangements.
• Contribute to discharge planning and postoperative care coordination.
• Maintain accurate medical records and participate in performance measures.
