Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati seeks a Congenital Heart Surgeon for a full‑time, 40‑hour per week role. Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree and active US medical license.
  • Current unrestricted medical license in the United States.
  • University of Cincinnati Department of Pediatrics faculty appointment aligned with qualifications.
  • Credentialing through CCHMC Medical Staff Services is mandatory.
  • Completion of all required pre-employment activities (screening, background check, badging, orientation).
  • Disclosure of any official disciplinary actions by a hospital, specialty board, medical association, or government agency.
  • Teaching and training competence in pediatrics for medical students, residents, and fellows is desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Lead the Heart Institute Surgical ECMO program at CCHMC as surgical director.

  • Provide coverage and on‑call shifts across partner sites as needed.
  • Collaborate with the chief cardiothoracic surgeon at each network location and contribute to Heart Network growth.

Overview

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) invites applications for the position of Congenital Heart Surgeon. This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week role based at Cincinnati, but the surgeon will work across the Heart Institute Network, including Akron Children’s Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and other partner sites.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a network surgeon supporting partner hospital systems across the Heart Institute Network.
  • Lead the Heart Institute Surgical Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at CCHMC as surgical director.
  • Perform congenital heart surgeries, collaborate in multidisciplinary research, and participate in teaching and clinical initiatives within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Provide coverage and on‑call shifts as needed, including vacation, weekend, holiday, and month‑to‑month assignments at partner sites.
  • Collaborate with the chief cardiothoracic surgeon at each network location and contribute to the growth of the Heart Network.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree, or equivalent.
  • Current active unrestricted medical license in the United States.
  • Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor appointment with the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Pediatrics (faculty appointment will align with qualifications).
  • Board certification/eligibility in cardiothoracic or congenital heart surgery is not required, but appropriate medical credentialing through CCHMC Medical Staff Services is mandatory.
  • Completion of all required pre‑employment activities (screening, background check, badging, orientation).
  • Disclosure of any official disciplinary actions by a hospital, specialty board, medical association, or government agency.
  • Teaching and training competence in pediatrics for medical students, residents, and fellows (desirable).
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
