Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is inviting applications for a standby Congenital Heart Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The surgeon will serve as a standby network surgeon supporting partner hospital systems including Akron Children’s Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and others.

The role requires an MD or DO, an active medical license, and Board Certification or Eligibility in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Congenital

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree required.
  • Active unrestricted medical license required.
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Congenital Heart Surgery.
  • Credentialing through Medical Staff Services.
  • Complete pre-employment activities (screening, background check, badging, orientation).
  • Disclose any disciplinary actions by hospital, board, medical association, or government agency.

  • Operate as standby network surgeon for partner sites, report within 72 hours.
  • Support development and growth of the Heart Network; collaborate with partner site's Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
  • Execute assignments of varying duration (vacation coverage, weekend/holiday on‑call, monthly shifts, ongoing assignments).

Position Overview

Cincinnati Children’s (CCHMC) is inviting applications for a standby Congenital Heart Surgeon to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The surgeon will serve as a stand‑by network surgeon supporting partner hospital systems including Akron Children’s Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and others.

Responsibilities
  • Operate as a standby network surgeon for partner sites, ready to report within 72 hours.
  • Support the development and growth of the Heart Network and collaborate directly with each partner site's Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
  • Execute assignments of varying duration, including vacation coverage, weekend/holiday on‑call shifts, monthly shifts, and ongoing assignments as required by partner sites.
Requirements
  • MD or DO degree (or equivalent).
  • Current active unrestricted medical license.
  • Board Certified or Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Congenital Heart Surgery (or international equivalent).
  • Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services office.
  • Completion of all required CCHMC pre‑employment activities (screening, background check, badging, and orientation).
  • Disclose any official disciplinary actions by a hospital, specialty board, medical association, or government agency.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Teaching and training competence with medical students, residents, and fellows in pediatrics.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience mentoring women or members of underrepresented groups and working with diverse patient populations.
