Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA, is seeking an App or PA to join our Cardiothoracic Surgery Critical Care Service. You will provide comprehensive perioperative care from initial consultation through postoperative recovery, working with cardiothoracic surgeons and a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidates are graduates of an accredited NP/PA program, licensed in Virginia, with strong critical care skills and the ability to practice with autonomy in a fast-paced ICU.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Licensure: Current state Licensed NP and RN licensure or Physician Assistant; DEA license.
• Certification: AHA BLS-HCP certification required; ACLS preferred; prescriptive authority eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Critical Care Management: Manage patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic surgeries including aortic, CABG, valve, and thoracic procedures.
• Collaboration: Work with attending physicians and APPs on advanced mechanical circulatory support devices (ECMO, IABP, LVAD, Impella, RVAD).
• Procedural Skills Development: Perform and refine ICU procedures (bronchoscopy, central venous catheter placement, arterial line, chest tube).
• Patient Experience & Quality of Care: Focus on patient experience, satisfaction, and evidence-based perioperative care.
• Diagnostic & Clinical Decision-Making: Order/interpret tests and apply clinical judgment for timely interventions.
• Emergency Response: Respond to critical situations and stabilize patients until definitive treatment.
