Job summary

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Gastroenterology team, delivering patient-centered care within a highly specialized cardiovascular environment. You will work with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other clinical staff to support patients through complex cardiac care journeys.

The ideal candidate has 1 year of clinical MA experience, completes an accredited MA program, and supports a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• 1 year clinical experience as Medical Assistant.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program.
• MA certification preferred per WakeMed.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain vital signs, update medical histories, and document in the electronic medical record.
• Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and cardiac care workflows.
• Coordinate care with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other team members for seamless patient care.
• Support patients with cardiovascular and heart failure conditions through education and appointment coordination.
• Process medication requests, prior authorizations, referrals, and diagnostic testing.
• Monitor provider schedules, manage patient flow, and support clinic operations.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment following safety and infection prevention standards.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Medical Assistant Program certification

MA certification (AAMA/AMT/ARMA/NCCT)
