The Cardiologist is a Licensed/Board Certified professional who plays a key role as part of the clinical operations team, providing direct patient care and assessments, primarily in the ambulatory health care center setting. The responsibilities include diagnosing and treating cardiovascular ailments, taking medical histories, conducting exams, developing care plans, providing health education, referrals, follow-up care, and documentation according to ChenMed standards. The Cardiologist also participates in clinical rounds and conferences.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care, care coordination, echocardiogram reading, population management, and oversight of primary care physicians’ cardiovascular skills.
- Lead a cardiovascular care team, which may include Care Promoters, Technicians, and mid-level providers depending on scope and volume.
- Assist the Medical Director in managing clinical and business operations and building relationships with providers and stakeholders.
- Manage care of chronic cardiovascular diseases, examine patients, order tests, and recommend treatment plans for a panel of at least 5,000 patients, with team support.
- Assess patient’s ability for surgeries, assist in managing surgical strategies, and clear patients for surgery.
- Read EKGs, X-rays, and echoes; order tests as needed.
- Prescribe medications and treatments adhering to guidelines and coverage.
- Review external referrals, participate in utilization authorizations, and determine urgency.
- Potentially oversee operations of 2-5 centers under supervision.
- Exercise independent medical judgment.
- Provide patient education on heart disease, wellness, and prevention.
- Assist in training and hiring cardiology staff.
- Mentor PCP physicians and clinicians in cardiology management.
- Participate in team meetings, clinical discussions, and quality initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacology used in treatment.
- Standard practices within Cardiology.
- Exceptional clinical skills, especially with seniors.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical and results management skills.
- Conflict resolution and population risk management experience preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Education and Experience:
- MD or DO in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or similar.
- Board certification in Cardiology.
- Active medical license, DEA, and DPS registration.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cardiologist.
- Experience with interdisciplinary teams and quality improvement preferred.
- BLS certification required within 90 days of employment.
