Position Title: Cardiac-Vascular Sonographer - Adult Non-Invasive Cardiology

Department: Echo-Vascular Lab

Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Shift: Full-Time Days - Rotating Shift, Rotating Weekends, Call required

General Description:

Under immediate to general supervision and direction of a mentor/preceptor, this entry-level position works to achieve the initial competencies required to deliver specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology services to adult and/or pediatric patient populations for the purpose of aiding medical staff in the diagnosis, care, treatment, and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects, and/or diseases.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides safe, high quality, efficient, and patient-centered care using entry-level knowledge, abilities, skills, and resources in various care settings, including inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, urgent care, and outreach clinics.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and correlates clinical history with physician-ordered procedures.
  • Communicates and collaborates with patients, families, and care team members to achieve clinical outcomes and service expectations.
  • Uses specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic equipment to perform diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures following established guidelines.
  • Conducts post-procedure reviews to ensure completion, documentation, and quality standards.
  • Transfers images and data to archives, enters findings, and prepares studies for physician reporting.
  • Performs quality control, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintenance of equipment per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participates in ongoing education, professional development, and research activities.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Radiography program or within six weeks of graduation. Preference for graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs with emphasis in cardiovascular or radiologic technology, as defined by ARDMS, ARRT, and/or CCI.

Experience: 0-3 years.

Licenses/Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Must meet eligibility requirements for ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI in the relevant specialty within 12 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of cardiovascular/radiologic principles, medical imaging, terminology, patient positioning, and ethics. Ability to work as part of a team, follow instructions, and maintain confidentiality. Good communication, multi-tasking, and stress management skills. Ability to understand operational policies and procedures, and to work independently with attention to detail.

Normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology knowledge related to the specialty, with skill in applying core principles to perform, analyze, and document procedures.
