Job description

Overview

Your job is more than a job. The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to ultrasound. Operates ultrasound equipment to produce images according to established policies of the department and hospital. Responsible for educational presentations to physicians and technical staff. May monitor supplies and perform routine departmental maintenance necessary to operate on a daily basis.

Responsibilities
  • Perform echocardiograms: prepare the patient for testing, perform the appropriate test and provide data/results to the cardiologist with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare a preliminary report for the reading physician as per schedule.
  • Perform a diagnostic quality echocardiogram with thorough interrogation of normal and abnormal cardiac and extracardiac anatomy on patients of all ages, from newborn to adult.
  • Perform all quantitative measurements from M‑Mode, 2D and Doppler studies.
  • Assist the healthcare practitioner with transesophageal, epicardial and intracardiac echocardiographic studies.
  • Recognize simple and most complex congenital heart defects independently.
  • Perform fetal echocardiograms as required.
  • Apply organizational skills toward testing of both inpatients and outpatients; complete a preliminary report on all tests performed for physician review.
  • Identify indications and limitations of exams and procedures.
  • Order inventory specific supplies needed to perform duties, order necessary replacements, and stock necessary supplies.
  • Assist with special projects, policies and procedures and performance improvement as requested.
  • Evaluate new equipment, procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Stock linen and supplies.
  • Ensure the room and equipment are clean and ready for use throughout the day.
  • Maintain necessary hours of continuing medical education per ARDMS and IAC requirements.
  • Attend echocardiography lab quality assurance reviews and catheterization conferences per quarter as needed.
  • Perform and maintain quality control and preventive maintenance of diagnostic equipment that meets manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities of echocardiography studies in accordance with IAC standards.
  • Participate and attend in‑services pertaining to cardiology.
Qualifications
  • Registered through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a medical sonographer or cardiac sonographer.
  • ARDMS pediatric registry or CCI congenital cardiac sonographer registry required (Manning Family).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification.
